It is hard to believe where the time goes! It feels like yesterday that my eldest started Kindy and next year will be her final year in Primary School! I remember the size 2 uniform swimming on her, juggling a tired newborn baby and school drop off’s and pick ups, mountains of box building creations destined straight for the entry table and lots of wonderful new friendships.

Both my kids have been lucky enough to have had such wonderful teachers guide them through their journey during their Primary School years. We have also been blessed with music and dance teachers and sports coaches who have nurtured their talents, offered encouragement when needed and really gave them so many skills to be the best that they can be.

Oh, The Places You’ll Go Keepsake Tradition

I adopted a little tradition during my kids first year of Pre-Kindy. I purchased a copy of Dr Seuss’s “Oh, The Places You’ll Go! I have snuck the book to their classroom teacher each year to write a little comment to them, along with their name and year. Any special coaches or extra-curricular teachers who have really touched their lives have also wrote comments over the years. It is such a lovely way to remember all the teachers and coaches who have touched your child’s lives and helped make them who they are today. I plan on giving mine to my kids at their Year 6 Graduation, however I know a few people who have kept the tradition going right through high school! It is lovely to look back at the comments and the people who have been a big part of their journey.

About the Book

If you’re not familiar with this book, it’s a perfect gift and keepsake for graduates. The book starts off with;

Congratulations! Today is your day! You’re off to Great Places! You’re off and away! You have brains in your head. You have feet in your shoes. You can steer yourself any direction you choose.

It continues with challenges you might encounter venturing out into the world, in that classic, loveable Dr Seuss Style.

You’ll be on your way up! You’ll be seeing great sights! You’ll join the high fliers who soar to great heights…Except when you don’t. Because sometimes you won’t. I’m sorry to say so but sadly it’s true that Bang-ups and Hang-ups can happen to you.

The book then ends on an inspiring and encouraging note;

And will you succeed? Yes! You will indeed! (98 and 3/4 percent guaranteed!)…You’re off to Great Places! Today is your day! Your mountain is waiting. So. . . get on your way!

Share your photos of your child with his/her copy once your have finished the project!
